Mother Dear

Sitting here
Wishing you knew
You never knew
What I wanted from you
Never cared for the things you bought
Never cared for the fancy things
You were just trying to mend the hurt
You never realized that to me
It was just things
What I wanted more than anything
Your love and attention
You keeping a promise
Just to spend a day with you
No yelling
No arguing
No insults
Your job not getting in the way
Money not being a problem
But that's all in the past now
I've moved away
You never realizing
More than anything
I needed a friend
I needed my mom
We never talked
I was willing
You never had the time to listen
So much would have changed
But only if we talked
Instead of talking you just bought
Things I never needed
Still now
That's all I want
Just to talk
So I can tell you everything
Everything you never knew
Never even thought about
You would be surprised
How little you know
You say I am your child
As my parent, things you should have known
It wasn't hard you know
Keeping the secrets I keep
You never asked
I never told
Instead you just bought
You couldn't' buy me a car
You couldn't buy me much at times
You always complained
When you spent too much
You never realized
What I wanted was free
Love is free to give
Talking is free too
Doesn't cost a dime
Doesn't' even cost a penny
Completely free
Years of not talking
Will we ever be able to talk?
Or will we just go on
Like we always have
Never saying what we need to
Just ignoring each other
Never caring
What the other is thinking
Keeping our secrets to ourselves
You just buying me
With what you think I want
What I want
Can't be bought
No store carries it
No book can tell you
What I want
Can't be replaced
Can't be substituted
Nothing can replace
Words or Love
Nothing can repair
The loneliness I feel
Nothing can fix
My broken heart
Not broken by a man
Rather broken by you
You never understood

Most Everything
Fixable in a day
Just you and me
Maybe Daddy too
Sitting down together
Just talking
That's all
Nothing more
That is all I want
That is all I ever wanted
